Yesterday I played with making some patterns from some of my existing smaller woodcut prints! 🖤

Spoiler alert I may or may not be planning on turning them into wrapping paper! 👀

Though now that I've done this I just can't stop! 🙌🏻

I also love that my smaller prints contributed to these, it really shows that no work is too small, and anything I make could turn into something meaningful! 🌿

It has really reinvigorated my making, and my guilt for not making new highly detailed prints at the rate that I used to! 🌷

Here is another little printmaking studio task from the other day, which was framing the largest woodcut print I made! 🖤

I am so excited to tell you more about the story behind it closer to the show, but until then enjoy the cat print in all its glory! 🐈‍⬛

I have had Luna now for 7 months, she's my first pet asides from a guinea pig and a turtle I had when I was young, and it's been a whirlwind and a dream! 🌷

She is very vocal and opinionated, also wildly spoiled by myself and my partner! 🙈

It often feels like such a frenetic dream that she is the cat we chose from the shelter, we could never have guessed her hilarious personality! Always tethering between being extremely wise and smart, or chaos goblin!

Are you a cat or dog lover? I always thought I wanted a dog but I was so wrong!! All I have are cats on my mind! 👀

My life drawing inspired prints are always the most loved, and I love making them! 🌿

The life models are always inspiring, creating such interesting shapes in their poses, which evoke a range of feelings that I love trying to capture! 🌷

Anyway, I am loving carving them all in wood even more! There is such a lovely quality to the material, and with the wood grain showing in prints, it makes the prints more grounded somehow! 🙌🏻

I cannot wait to make more and it gets me thinking to make larger and larger prints too!

There is so much magic in printmaking, of course my favourite are linocut and woodcut prints. 🌿

When I get asked why I use this (antiquated, laborious) medium, I never know how else to say it other than my work wouldn't exist without it! 🌷

All of my prints are a conversation, between the surface I am carving, the wood, the materials, the tools made by others, the history of the trade, and all the stories that pertain to us as people (and quiet my busy mind). 🙈

I revel in the process and in the labour behind it, it is in that labour that my best ideas come, and the magic of a print happens. 👀!

There are more aspects to my work, and having studied art all my life I have also tried many mediums, yet finding printmaking felt like I could finally express myself in the way that I wanted!

Today I put some finishing details on this woodcut print of Luna, where I am imagining her past lives! 🖤

There are so many things I do around my studio all the time that don't involve me making a print from start to finish, so I really want to share more of these tasks! 🙌🏻

Anyway I never shared the process of making this woodblock print, or the full story behind it, as the show at @atelierbrighton is in September, so I am saving it all until then! 🌷

But I still wanted to show some steps in me preparing it! Tune in next time where I will be framing it! 🌿
