Here are some details from my first woodcut print I've been talking about this week! 🖤

I ventured to illustrate some verses from "This is a Printing Office" by Beatrice Warde! 🌿

It was a poem/ manifesto that sat on a plaque in many printing establishments around the world! 🌷

There is so much in her words that speaks to the responsibility of having a printing facility at your disposal, that we can really learn from today, and apply to any contemporary means of spreading ideas. I really recommend reading the whole text! 🙌🏻

This was my largest print yet, A2 in size, and I am so eager to make larger work, and to carry on with woodcut printing! 👀

Having been in love with linocut for so long I had no idea how much I would love wood too (though I should have known from my wood engraving)!

Of course in total me fashion, I jumped from the tiny A6 block of wood I made once a while ago as a text, to an A2 one! 😅

Not only that, but I challenged myself to carve it ahead of an exhibition in a couple of weeks, which ended up being more like one week! 🌿

Anyway, it was so exciting to work on a larger scale and I loved carving wood, I'm thrilled with all the upcoming possibilities!

Of course I decided I would carve a large woodcut block of shyna plywood, which I had never really tried before, especially on this scale! 😅

Trying a new technique before a show? I don't recommend the stress, but sometimes I feel that I really need this push to propel my work forward! 🙌🏻

Anyway the carving went so well, I'm so excited to share more about the block, and let's hope the printing of it goes just as well!
