As a new member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen, an organisation which takes its roots from the Arts and Crafts movement, I was so excited to take part in their Crossing Crafts project.

Society members from different craft disciplines were paired to work together, and I was paired with textile maker Mandy Nash.

It turned out that both of us had wanted to experiment with textile printing more, and inspired by her incredible stash of offcuts, we did experiments printing on various materials, linens, leather, suede, and even felt.

I was in awe with the results, and the project also helped me advance my woodcut printing skills. I am now trying to play with creating repeat patterns. I firstly approached some loose experiments with this by making very small woodblocks that can then be experimented with like a puzzle to create tile prints. My next focus will be to create a more traditional repeat textile pattern by carving one larger woodblock that connects on all sides and can be printed one after another.

In my imagery, I was inspired by the work of Godfrey Blount, as well as Romanian folk symbolism and stories.

This is an ongoing project and collaboration and I am so excited to see where it takes me.
