Hand-printed linocut print inspired by medieval imagery, folklore, and historical printmaking traditions.
Each print is pulled by hand from an original hand-carved lino block using archival oil-based relief inks onto traditional Bhutanese resho paper. Made from the bark of de-nar — a high-growing variety of lokta harvested from the Himalayan forests of Eastern Bhutan — this richly textured paper is a sustainable and renewable fibre historically used throughout Bhutan and Tibet for Buddhist manuscripts and block printing.
The paper is naturally pigmented with ground Bhutanese earth colours, including warm yellow ochre and deep red earth tones traditionally used in Bhutanese architecture. Its layered fibres, organic texture, and mineral pigments beautifully complement the tactile qualities of relief printmaking, giving each piece a unique depth and character.
Remote and landlocked within the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan — known as Druk Yul, the Land of the Thunder Dragon — has a long tradition of papermaking closely connected to the rhythms of rural life and the surrounding mountain forests. These handmade papers are still produced using traditional methods by local farming communities in Eastern Bhutan.
Each print is mounted on coloured mountboard selected to complement the tones of the artwork and paper, and packaged in compostable cellophane sleeves for protection during display and shipping. Prints can be supplied with or without retail price stickers on request.
